Curtis R. Cowan


Curtis R. Cowan is a Board Certified Family Law Specialist and Expert. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Cowan taught high school English and coached high school swimming for eight years in Broward County. In addition, he coached the 1976 Florida State Swimming Champions and received “Swimming Coach of the Year” honors five times. Mr. Cowan earned his J.D. magna cum laude in 1985 from Nova Southeastern University Law School where he was Editor-In-Chief of the Nova Law Review and was the recipient of the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence awarded at graduation for outstanding intellectual achievement and overall scholarship. He earned his Bachelor of Science in 1973 from The Ohio State University where he was a member of the varsity swimming team.

Mr. Cowan is a former partner in the prestigious law firm of Holland & Knight, LLP, where he spent the first 17 years of his legal career. From 2006 through May 2015, he practiced solo as Curtis R. Cowan, P.A. Today he practices exclusively as a partner in the KO Lawyers Family Law Department.

In his community, Mr. Cowan had been active as a founding Executive Board Member of the Communities in Schools of Broward County, Inc. and he is active in Broward Lawyers Care. Mr. Cowan has previously been an adjunct professor of law at the Nova Southeastern Law Center, teaching Pretrial Practice to second- and third-year law students.
