Douglas A. Blankman has been practicing law in the State of Florida for nearly forty years. During that time, he has litigated hundreds of defective medical product liability and pharmaceutical drug, personal injury, and medical malpractice claims, along with wrongful death and negligence cases of all kinds. Mr. Blankman has obtained numerous multi-million dollar jury verdicts over his career.
He has represented patients who received defective medical implants, consumers, insureds, and healthcare providers in class actions and Mass Torts recovering in excess of one hundred million dollars in monetary benefits to his clients within the past several years. Those cases covered all areas including, but not limited to, defective medical and pharmaceutical products, mass torts, healthcare provider reimbursement and contractual disputes with health insurers, insurance bad faith and class action litigation.
Recently, Mr. Blankman has also practiced in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). He is in charge of the firm’s ADR department and is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Civil Mediator and arbitrator. Mr. Blankman handles pre-suit, Circuit Court and Federal mediations/arbitrations.
He has been working and affiliated with the Kopelowitz Ostrow Firm, P.A., over the past fifteen years. Prior to that, he was a partner with Kopelman & Blankman, P.A., for approximately 20 years. He received his Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Florida in 1980. He received his Law Degree from Nova University in 1979 with Honors and his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of South Florida in 1976. He is admitted to practice law in the State of Florida and before the United States Supreme Court; United States Court of Appeals; United States Tax Court; United States Court of Claims and United States Federal District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. Professional Associations include the Florida Bar; Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers, Broward County Bar Association and American Bar Association.
